AIMCAANA MEETING REPORTS
Records 1 to 6 of 6
PRESIDENT 2010 Report ( 19 March 2011 )

I would like to thank all Iqbalians and AIMCAANA members for providing me the opportunity to serve as President for the year 2010. It was no doubt a great honor for me.  The momentum that was created to energize the alumni association in 2008 continued to progress during 2009 and 2010 with great zeal and enthusiasm. It was for the first time we were able to deliver on all the initiatives and outstanding promises from many previous years. Following are just a few examples of what was accomplished during this period.

  • After distributing 107 Scholarships (RS 5000 each) in August 2009 (following a diligent review of all the applications by citizen committee), 22 Scholarships (RS 20, 000 each) were given towards hostel expenses in 2010 to bright and deserving students of AIMC.
  • AIMCAANA awarded Qarze-hasna worth $7000 to 7 young iqbalians in 2009 as financial assistance to apply and go through the long and expensive interview process. 9 young iqbalians benefited from this project during the 2010 match year.
  • Process to support young iqbalians living in Philadelphia, PA was streamlined and with AIMCAANA’s help they moved from one bedroom apartment to a three bed room house. Its rent is being supported with $1000/month grant that is being given to the Iqbalians residing there in the form of Qarze-hasna since May 2009.  The amount was increased to 1200/month since December 2010. Collectively 27 young iqbalians benefited from this support and 10 of them were able to secure a residency spot for 2010.
  • Residency Assistance Committee helped many young Iqbalians in their residency search with variety of tools like guidance, insider tips, web site etc.
  • Jinnah Allama Iqbal Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (JAIDE) inaugurated on November 14, 2009 (World Diabetic Day) after a speedy renovation of existing building sponsored by the AIMCAANA membership.  The institute was also recognized as the accredited endocrinology fellowships site soon after its inauguration, 2nd such accreditation in Pakistan.

·         2010 was the first time in the history of AIMCAANA when our paid annual membership reached triple digits and lifetime membership crossed 50.

·         AIMCAANA CONECTION was once again budget neutral project and received with great enthusiasm. Dr. Shahram Malik along with all the publication Committee did an excellent job in highlighting Iqbalians pride.

·         Annual summer meeting of APPNA in Dallas saw a very strong showing of AIMCAANA, Annual dinner was a sold out event. Prof. Hoodbhoy as key note speaker and Dr. Javed Akram as chief guest enlightened us with their intellect and wisdom. AIMCAANA booth was the most popular spot for Gup Shup for all of us.  This year AIMCAANA saw its many firsts at the meeting, for example! This was the first time we were able to showcase our completed projects like JAIDE, Iqbalian House, Scholarships, Qarze-hasna, and audience response system. This was the first time when we used online payment system on the spot to collect payments. This was also the first time AIMCAANA was able to provide free T-shirts with AIMCAANA logo on it. It was heartwarming to see Iqbalians wearing the shirts proudly on Saturday. It was also the first time AIMCAANA invited a folk singer Iqbal Bahoo from Pakistan to entertain its members.

·         The highlight of the Dallas meeting was the 20 minutes of fund raising for our projects. Iqbalians opened their hearts and over $55,000 were pledged within few minutes for these projects. However due to devastating floods we decided not to specifically pursue those pledges as many of you donated a large amount towards flood victims.

  • Active alumni participation in flood relief efforts helped many of the projects to far reaching success; especially the water purification units coordinated by APPKI, provision of medical care by AIMC faculty and student teams of volunteers in the flood affected areas, collection of funds, food and clothing in their communities.

·         This year Executive Council has approved to renovate and furnish a chemotherapy Infusion suite at Jinnah hospital on the request of Dr. Javed Akram and Dr. Zeba Aziz. I am pleased to report that due to Citizen Committee’s hard work renovation is on going and the unit will be fully functional by the end of February 2011, details will follow soon.

·         We continued to follow our Bylaws. As Dr. Mahmood Alam completed his term as member Board of trustees, by a unanimous vote Executive committee submitted 3names to BOT for the vacant slot, one of those to be selected by BOT.

It was a huge responsibility upon me and the Executive Council 2010 to fulfill our commitments and it would not have been possible without the continued support of AIMCAANA membership. I like to thank all the committees for the excellent work this year. In the end I would like to extend special gratitude to my Executive Council and Dr. Sajid Chaudhary for all their devotion, hard work, volunteerism and guidance. I am very confident that with all of your support Dr. Khurram Nazeer and 2011 Executive committee will take the alumni to many new mile stones.  I invite all Iqbalians to join hands with them to make these initiatives successful.
